In light of the Iowa Supreme Court's recent pronouncement calling for ethics investigation against their brethren on the district, associate district and magistrate bench as well as prosecuting attorneys for alleged ethical violations reported by no less an authority than the Des Moines Register, it is time for the defense bar to take action to protect our fellow attorneys and judges from themselves. I therefore would recommend to each and every one of you that not only should the defense bar resolve not to plea bargain in simple misdemeanor cases, but that a jury demand be made in each and every case, and that each matter be taken to trial to assure the judges and county attorneys of the full panoply of their rights. If any of you haven't yet read the most wise and judicious pronouncement of our Iowa Supreme Court, the link is here: |
